6. Less CO₂

Higher gas mileage means lower global warming pollution.

One major contributor to the greenhouse gas pollution that threatens a world climate crisis is gasoline. In the U.S., transportation accounts for one-third of carbon dioxide emissions, most of which comes from vehicle tailpipes. Significant gains in new-vehicle gas mileage will reduce those emissions and help to stabilize the climate.
